Almost done with my shopping
For 3 days I have been in Hyderabad.
Finished so many works!!!!!
Finished buying air travel bags, clothes, air ticket, spectacles and sundry things.
Been to IEG(Institute for electronic governance), JNTU and got a DD worth 11000 for teaching juniors and training them in JKC(Jawhar knowledge Center).
Been to Bhargavi peddamma's new house and we enjoyed a drive in Sesanna's new car.

As i said last time, a good book is many things at different times.
It helps one to develop as a thinking, feeling being.
It can have a great impact on a person or even the society in general.
We all know how Gandhiji was inspired by the stories of Hariscandra and SravanaKumara.
Abe Lincoln, on meeting Harriet Beecher Stove, said (referencing UNCLE TOM'S CABIN)
"So you're the little woman that started this great war?"
So, I would like each of us to read atleast a few great works. Let them be in Telugu, English, Hindi or any other language.
All the books are not readily available and need not be bought either. All of us have good libraries and we can catch up on out reading when we visit each other.
First I shall start with the list in Telugu.

Kobbari Lauzu & Durga Pinni
I made kobbari lauzu today and it reminded me of Durga pinni, although I did not spend nearly as much time as pinni did in making it. A can of caramel milkmaid and some endu kobbari and it was ready in 10 minutes.
There are some foods that always remind me of certain people. Peddamma for semya payasam, Indiratta for ravva kesari and durga pinni for kobbari lauzu.

5. Only pidi..cant apply anything( I was the only guy in whole Kavali to have gotten 28/30 in Physics practicals)
6. People asking me if I can actually write code!!!

Flashes of singampallity:
1. I did pass all my exams with out any help
2. Did all my studying in Kavali and turned out all right
3. Did average 80% in engineering (with minimal effort..yes I said it)
4. Had 4.0 for a long time( Its 3.95 now :( )
List of stupid things:
1. Tightrope on walls
2. Go kayaking in raging waters without moms approval
3. Defy SLN ( OMG...can that ever be done? yes, I am the only living proof.. )
I know its a little twisted but I like being evil hence I am "you know who"
From the above options I am going with brain trauma...
Lost a few singampalli attributes but got some attributes which helped me become the Jock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jock ) that I am.
Now the next question,if you are a singampalli why dont you post to the group?
Upon further introspection 2 things seem to standout:
1. Being lazy(99.98% of the reason)

2. Sports (other percentage)
I get my kicks bowling the perfect yorker or taking a great leaping catch infront of the boundary (I also have to make decisions like should I slide into third or just play it safe and make the out considering "badhyatalu nettina padutunnayi")
I am nowhere close to being the best (read decent,good enough) in what I do but am passionate for sure about it.Maybe that is the singampalli trait, havent thought about it.
Anything that requires real thinking, I will designate it to the brain trust to figure out (read "the real singampallis"--to be posted)

Work: 50 hrs

Ooh, how I get my thunders stolen for living in the land where sun rises later.
I was going to create a discussion forum for such elongated discussions where a thread would be maintained and will be continuous. I was doing research into a couple of message boards before I posted that recommendation. I was looking at Mrudula's request and thought a message board was a more appropriate forum for such activity. This way, the initial request can be on the home page and subsequent long discussions on the forum, since posts disappear from the front page after a while.
Anyways, now you know what is coming down the line.

Continuing on Babai's thoughts:
I think a really good book achieves all the elements mentioned (entertain, enlighten, provoke thought and action). Stephen Fry said it well in his tribute to Wodehouse:
"Without Wodehouse I am not sure that I would be a tenth of what I am today - whatever that may be. In my teenage years, his writings awoke me to the possibilities of language. His rhythms, tropes, tricks and mannerisms are deep within me. But more than that, he taught me something about good nature. It is enough to be benign, to be gentle, to be funny, to be kind."
I am sure PGW's writing has that effect on most people: While one is laughing to distraction at the antics of Bertie, it weaves a subtle skein and traps one into a life of 'Noblesse Oblige' where not doing 'the done thing' is the worst crime possible. Thus, it entertains and yet instructs.
Writing is first and foremost an art, after all; and art, while it might convey a message, has to enthrall one with its creativity and beauty.
Also agree with babai on how one's tastes and perspectives change with time. The teens were the times for bournvita and Jeffrey Archer. Now I prefer bitterness in coffee and brevity & pithiness (not a quality this post can be noted for :)) in literature. Thus, quality of prose figures as the top criteria in my reading nowadays...

At 30, with a little more knowledge of the world and its customs, the cultural similarities between the brahmins of various districts were seen and phrases like "Vy Sa Bu PE" and sayings like "Thamboolalu ichesanu, thannuku chavandi" and "Thondarapadi thondarapadi, Haji sayebu, thurakallo kalisipoyadu" came into focus.
A little later it became a commentary of the society at that time and a comparison with today was more revealing.
I keep finding newer angles and am appreciating different values in it.
As far as the epics are concerned,I will discuss them in a later post.

Book recommendations?
Seeing Krupa's library makes me feel like reading a good book. Any recommendations? I have not had a really satisfying read in a long time...

Why use one when ten can suffice
That sums up Aditya's philosophy about talking. This weekend, I baked some cookies which he and SSV were eating. Srinivas (IS) wanted one too and the following is the conversation between Aditya and me.
Aditya: Mommy, daddy wants a cookie. I am eating one and mama is eating one. So daddy is sad and he said "why I am not getting a cookie, get me one". So I went into the kitchen to get him a cookie but the plate is too hot and it is going to burn my hand if I get the cookie, so you need to get me the cookie so I can give it to daddy.
Me: Ok.

I saw the state of affairs was Nadal 6-1,3-3,serving at 40-40 and then onto ADV FEDERER.
Felt that there was going to be a match with Fedex fighting back.
Went for dinner (Moodu Pindla Dosalu a la SRM, if anybody wants to know.--otherwise just skip that line.)

when I came back, I found, to my horror, that the match was over.
Good God! He IS Roughel Nadal on clay.
My calendar says that Krupa is scheduled to start making rain form a point of central view today (evening for us-- morning for them).

Talk about sea change! I turn my eyes away from the blog for a couple of days and suddenly everyone (congrats Prof SLN, you have succeeded in evoking a response from the back-benchers, says Poonam) have started contributing. Instead of commenting on each separately, let me comment all at once:
1. Kanth, Loveaduck! what a pome (as Ern would say to Fatty in the Five-findouters series)...you are a genius, you are.
2. Babais and Pinni, I thought I was the expert on somewhat-baked asuvu kavithwam.. I see that is just genetics :) Jokes aside, you'd all give Ogden Nash a run for his money.
3. Krupa, good grades. And for those who dont know, Mrudula cracked the second year also, missing top grade in only 1 subject. Impressive academic achievments in the family!

STATE OF AFFAIRS IN THE CURRENT WORLD
I wonder why Gopal has to masquerade as Mrudula!!
Probably, as is the rule nowadays, it is because he does not have a slot (shot) at the computer, what with TWO computer expert daughter's at home.
(Computer time is shared as follows--SRN 10%, srikanth 90%--SVN 10%, Manasa 90%--DMR 10%, Sarada 5%, Swathi 85%.
we are lucky-our kids are not here. Me 80%- Gowri 20%)
So, poor guy, he can only beg for a couple of moments at the keyboard and to save time send the message as Mrudula.
Am I right?
