సద్విమర్శలు.


కథ రాసిన తర్వాత వచ్చిన చక్కటి విమర్శలు ,ప్రశంసలుఅంతర్మథనానికి తావిచ్చాయి.
భార్య ఓర్పుగా ఉండటం,భర్త మెచ్చుకోలులో కూడా తను గొప్ప వాడు కనుక భార్య గొప్పదనం గుర్తించాననే అహం కనపడటంఅంతరిస్తున్న పురుషాధిక్య సమాజం తాలూకు అవశేషాలు అని నాకు కూడా అనిపించింది.
కాని ఆ అహం భర్తది కాక రచయితదేమో.
వ్యక్తి ఒక యుగసంధిలో నిలిచినప్పుడు, మార్పులు చేర్పులు జరుగుతున్న సమాజంలో భాగమయినపుడు.
గత వాసనలు  మనసులో సుప్తావస్థలో (sub conciously) వేలాడుతూనే ఉంటాయి.  
కానీ  --- ఏ లోపం లేని ఉన్నతమయిన పాత్ర సృజన దాదాపు అసాధ్యమేమో..
ఎందుకంటే ఈ రోజు బహిర్గతం కాని , లేక ప్రస్తుత సమాజపరం గా  తప్పుగా ఎంచబడని విలువలు  రేపు మారవచ్చు.

ఉదాహరణ కు ఎంతో సంస్కారం కలిగిన విశ్వనాథ్  ,జంధ్యాల కలయిక లో శంకరాభరణం వచ్చింది.

అల్లు రామలింగయ్య సోమయాజులు సంబంధాలు వదులుకోవడం గురించి చెప్తాడు.
"ఆ కుర్రవాడితండ్రి గరిటె తిప్పాడనిన్నీ  ఈ కుర్రవాడి తల్లి  సకేశి సాంప్రదాయం మంచిది కాదనిన్నీ" వద్దన్నావు  అంటాడు.
సకేశి అంటే తలవెంట్రుకల విధవ అనుకుంటాను.  ఇది తప్పే. వివక్షే.
దర్శక రచయిత ల బాల్యంలో లేక యవ్వనం లో ఈ వితంతువుల చేతిభోజనం  లేక వడ్డించిన  భోజనం మత పెద్దలు స్వీకరించడం నిషిద్ధం.
వీరిద్దరి లోని పాత వాసన ఉదాత్తమయిన సోమయాజులు పాత్ర లో చొరబడింది.
వంటవాడి వృత్తిని చులకన చేసే భావం కనిపిస్తుంది.
పోటిగరాఫుల  పంతులు బంట్రోతు తో  కన్యాశుల్కం గిరీశం
 " రేప్పొద్దున్న యివ్వకపోతే మాలవాడి కొడుకు ఛండాలుడు." అనడం కూడా ఈ కోవకు చెందిన సంభాషణ గా నాకనిపిస్తుంది.
పాత్రల తప్పొప్పులు రచయిత వే. కానీ పాత్రలు కాలానుగుణంగాఉంటాయి, అసంకల్పితంగా   అయినా.
ఇది సమర్థన మాత్రం ఖచ్చితంగా కాదు.( pleading guilty innocently)

I stood in front, thinking of leading the flock
Instead the crowd  dragged  me back  pleading steady like a rock;

I rushed again  to the fore ,determined to head the throng.
They pushed me to the rear, singleminded stubborn and strong.

I supposed, connection to their  minds better
As opposed to the correction of thoughts bitter;

Singled out ,I mingled with them
Wriggled into the middle, not at the helm.

Discouraged, I didn’t iterate my ideals
Encouraged, they liberated their ideas;

I lifted their saddened, sagged shoulders
Which were saddled with misery boulders;

I made their plight, my fight and fought
Every hand stretched for help, I sought and caught;

I thought ,in their league,
now I am a colleague;
Hushed they formed a human chain
Pushed me forward- THE CAPTAIN!

USA Presidential Elections 2020

 On November 3rd 2020, the citizens of the USA voted for their next president. It was a close election in certain states and ended with a Democratic party candidate  Joseph R Biden Jr victory. This is the first election that I followed closely and got to know about how the nomination process works, different ways  people vote and what swing states are and what are the swing states/ battleground states. 

In 2016 Republican candidate Donald Trump won the election. In 2020  Joe Biden narrowly secured the presidency with electoral college votes 290 to 217 [as of now] . Biden managed to keep all the blue states ( states that traditionally vote for Democrats like CA, WA, NY etc) and flipped few red states like Michigan and Arizona from 2016. 

In my opinion what Joe Biden did differently was that he said if he wins he will be the president of all the people of the United States of America.  He believed that we need to follow science to address COVD-19. On his election ticket he chose Kamala Harris who is California Senator to be his running mate. With this historic win Kamala Harris became, first Southeast Asian and first Woman of Color and first female Vice President of the USA .

I am looking forward to better days with Joe Biden as our Commander in Chief. I hope that Joe Biden will listen to Dr. Anthony Fauci and  we will be able to beat COVID-19. I hope I get to go to school and play with my friends in 2021.  Hoping for a better tomorrow.

మారీ మారని , మరీ మారని , అసలు మారని
మేమంతా గడిపిన కాలం మరపురాదు చిరకాలం.
కుంచించుకుపోతున్న శరీరానికి మనసుకు చిన్న ఓదార్పూ ఔషధం బలం

పరామర్శలు మాని విమర్శలతో మిగిలిన నేనూ ఆ తాను లో ముక్కనే.
నడిచే గడిచే కాలపు ఉలి  దెబ్బలకు స్వప్రమేయం లేకుండా రూపాంతరం చెందిన చెక్కనే.
    

Captain Ahab in Telugu

 Moby Dick is like Shakespeare in prose- full of metaphors, allegories and memorable passages. I requested SGK to translate a couple of those passages into Telugu (who knows, one day he may translate the whole book!), and he did a stellar job of it. Here are those passages and the translations.

Passage 1 - From Chapter 36 (The Quarter-deck): In this chapter, Ahab nails a golden doubloon to the mast as a reward to the seaman who spots the white whale first and rails his crew to chase it at all costs. Starbuck, his first mate, is aghast at this proposition. He sees this as a risk and distraction from the business of whaling for which they all were on that grueling voyage, and confronts Ahab. Ahab asks Starbuck to look below the surface ("hark ye yet again- the little lower layer") to understand Ahab's motivations.

“Vengeance on a dumb brute!” cried Starbuck, “that simply smote thee from blindest instinct! Madness! To be enraged with a dumb thing, Captain Ahab, seems blasphemous.”

“Hark ye yet again- the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event- in the living act, the undoubted deed- there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike though the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there’s naught beyond. But ‘tis enough. He tasks me; he heaps me; I see in him outrageous strength, with an inscrutable malice sinewing it. That inscrutable thing is chiefly what I hate; and be the white whale agent, or be the white whale principal, I will wreak that hate upon him. Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I’d strike the sun if it insulted me. For could the sun do that, then could I do the other; since there is ever a sort of fair play herein, jealousy presiding over all creations. But not my master, man, is even that fair play. Who’s over me? Truth hath no confines."

మనిషి దాడి చేస్తే   పైముసుగు తో సహా దెబ్బ తీయాలి.  బంధితుడు అడ్డంకిని ఛేదించకుండా ఏ విధంగా వెలుపలికి రాగలడు ?  నా దృష్టిలో  ఈ శ్వేత తిమింగలం నా చేరువకి  నెట్టబడిన అదే అవరోధం.  కొన్నిసార్లు నాకు ఆవల అంతా శూన్యమనిపిస్తుంది. చాలు. ఇక చాలు. వాడు నాకు బాధ్యతనిస్తున్నాడు. నన్ను చుట్టుముట్టి ముంచెత్తుతున్నాడు.  నేను అతనిలో దారుణమైన  శక్తి తోపాటు , నర నరాన జీర్ణంచుకొన్న  నిగూఢమైన దుర్బుద్ధిని చూస్తున్నాను. నేను  ప్రధానంగా ద్వేషించేది ఆ దాగి ఉన్న విషయాన్నే.  శ్వేత తిమింగల ప్రతినిధి కావచ్చు, కాక శ్వేత తిమింగల ప్రముఖుడు కావచ్చు అతని మీద నా ద్వేషాన్ని కుమ్మరిస్తాను. నాతో దైవదూషణ గురించి మాట్లాడకు మిత్రమా. నన్ను అవమానిస్తే  నేను సూర్యుడినయినా దండిస్తాను. సూర్యుడు అలా వ్యవహరించగలిగితే నేను మరోలా చేయగలనా ? ఎందుకంటే 
---అన్ని జీవరాశులను  అసూయ  తన అదుపులో ఉంచుకోవడం  ---- అనే  విచిత్రమయిన  సమదృష్టి కల క్రీడాస్ఫూర్తి ఇక్కడ ఎల్లవేళలా  ఉంది. కానీ మిత్రమా ఆ  క్రీడాస్ఫూర్తి కూడా నాకు యజమాని కాదు.  నాకంటే అధికులెవరు?  సత్యానికి పరిమితులు లేవు. 

Passage 2 - From Chapter 132 (The Symphony):  In this poignant chapter of the book, just before Ahab launches his final and fatal attack on the whale, he experiences a moment of remorse and self-awareness about his rash objective. He opens up to his long-suffering first mate Starbuck in his anguish and that is the content of this passage. 

 "Close! stand close to me, Starbuck; let me look into a human eye; it is better than to gaze into sea or sky; better than to gaze upon God."

“What is it, what nameless, inscrutable, unearthly thing is it; what cozening, hidden lord and master, and cruel, remorseless emperor commands me; that against all natural lovings and longings, I so keep pushing, and crowding, and jamming myself on all the time; recklessly making me ready to do what in my own proper, natural heart, I durst not so much as dare? Is Ahab, Ahab? Is it I, God, or who, that lifts this arm? 

చేరువలో , నా దాపున, సన్నిహితంగా నిలబడు స్టార్ బక్.

నన్నొక మానవనయనం లోనికి తేరిపార అవలోకించనీ. అగాథమయిన సాగరం లోనికో,అనంతమయిన గగనం వైపో విప్పార్చి చూడడంకన్నా ఇది ఉత్తమం. దైవాన్ని తదేకధ్యానం చేయడంకన్నా ఇది మెరుగైనది.. .

ఏమిటిది,ఏమిటది  !! ఏ అనిర్వచనీయమైన,మార్మికమైన మరోప్రపంచపు శక్తి  ఇది.!!

ఏ  మాయాపూరిత,నిగూఢ,ప్రభువో,యజమానియో, లేక , కాక ,  మరే  క్రూరుడైన ,కఠోరుడయిన  చక్రవర్తో నన్ను ఆజ్ఞాపిస్తున్నది.  ఆ శక్తి, దానికి బద్ధుడినైన నన్ను, సహజమైన ప్రేమలకు, వాంఛలకు వ్యతిరేకుడిగా, కాలమంతా నన్ను నేనే  ఇరుకైన సంకుచితత్వం లోనికి   నిర్లక్ష్యంగా  నెట్టుకునేలా చేస్తోంది.

నా స్వంతమై,,సవ్యమై, సహజమైన హృదయం తో ఏనాటికీ ఒడిగట్టలేని యత్నానికి నన్ను సంసిధ్ధుడిని చేస్తోంది.

WhiteHat Junior

Hi everybody today I am going to write about an online session that I am enrolled in. It is called Whitehat Jr and I am liking it. It is an online coding camp. Mom and Dad enrolled me in it, and I like the virtual sessions. 

I like the camp because they teach in a fun way. My teachers’ name is Swetha Godbole, and she lives in India. I have attended 9 classes so far. I attend 2-3 classes/ week. So far I have done 9 projects for homework, out of which 3 projects are about coding games. In class, Ms.Swetha taught me the concepts and in homework projects, I implemented the concept. 

To submit homework I need to login to code.org . For certain projects basic code is added for some important functionality like wandering or throwing stuff. For every project, we get a requirements sheet that gives us instructions on what needs to be coded to complete the project. After the project is submitted Ms. Swetha reviews it and gives points and her feedback.

• When the spaceship is clicked, the spaceship should rise.

Virtual Book Club

Hi everyone, this summer I am attending my first virtual book club. We are discussing the book “Fantastic Mr.Fox” by Roland Dahl. The book club is organized by Alameda County Library. After I read a book I like talking about the characters and the story, so mom suggested that attending this book club will give me the opportunity to do the same.

The first book club was on June 16th. We have 6 students (including me), the librarian (Tara), and the book club leader. Our book club leader is a rising freshman named Yuvraj Waila from San Jose Misson school.  All the students in our book club are fourth graders. One of my school friends Vivek is also attending the book club. 

At the beginning of the session, we all introduced ourselves and we talked to each other for a few minutes. We read and discussed the first seven chapters in the book.  I had a good time talking to the group about the story and the characters. For the next session, we have to read the next seven chapters. I am looking forward to the next session.

Percy Jackson

One of my favorite series is Percy Jackson written by Rick Riordan. These are the series I have read so far 

• Percy Jackson and the Olympian
• Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard
• The Heroes of Olympus 
• The Kane Chronicles  
• The Trials of Apollo  - the 5th book is scheduled to be released on  October 6th. I can’t wait to read this book. Mom said that she is going to take me to the author's book signing event if it is safe.

My favorite series is "Percy Jackson and the Olympian". This is about a twelve-year-old Percy Jackson who discovers he is a son of the Greek god Poseidon.

 My favorite character is Percy because he is loyal and kind. The best book in the series is the “The Last Olympian”. I also like the characters Annabeth and Grover as they are smart and loyal friends of Percy.

My first weekend of Summer vacation

I am back with another blog post. If you haven’t checked out my first post please check it out. I hope you will like it.

The last day of school was on Friday (June 5th).  I was doing my last day online videos and mom and dad surprised me with In N Out Burger (My favorite treat). Later in the day we went to Adi Anna’s house and we were joined by Pranav’s family ( as I like to call it :)).I had lots of fun with Pranav and Adi Anna. Krupa Atta made superb Tacos, Mrudula Atta made delicious Panner and  Mom made yummy carrot rice and Sabudana Kichidi. I enjoyed the food and the company.

Shortly after dinner Pranav left for home. Then we played games like Quiplash 2, Guesspionage and Trivia Murder Party games. A little later mom and dad left and I stayed for a sleepover at Adi Anna’s house. Adi Anna and I played video games until 12:00 AM ( as it’s the first weekend after school so it is a treat ). We slept and woke up the next morning and we devoured the scrumptious waffles with maple syrup. 

After breakfast we played video games and by then mom and dad came to pick me up. While coming mom and dad bought some Hot and Fresh Donuts for us from Krispy Kreme. I ate donuts and then we headed for Pranav’s house.

We hung out at Pranav’s house for 4 hours. We all had fun playing with “Pramav” ( as he calls himself :)). We had lunch at Mrudula Atta’s house and I loved Rotimatic Chapati. We headed home and played video games and I spoke to mom and dad for sometime. Then I wanted to write this blog and that sums up my first summer break weekend.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Hi this is Arjun. I recently watched the Avatar series and this is my review.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is about a 12 year old boy named Aang. I got to know about this series from Mrudula Atta, Aneesh Mama and Adi Anna. I watched the first episode at Mrudula Atta’s house. This was first aired in 2007 and is available on Netflix. It has 3 seasons.  

In the Avatar series the world is divided into four nations called the Water Tribe, the Earth kingdom, the Fire Nations and the Air Nomads. Traditionally, Benders have the ability to control and manipulate the element from their nation only. The Avatar is the person who has mastered/ need to master all the four elements. The Fire Nation wants to conquer the world but the previous Avatar who is Aang (the last airbender) shows up. The series revolves around Aang and his friends Katara and Sokka.

The main characters in the series are Aang (The Avatar/ The Last Airbender) and his two friends from the southern water tribe named Katara and Sokka. Avatar Roku, who was Aang’s predecessor, was the best friend of Fire Lord Sozin. Sozin used an incredible comet to deal a deadly first strike against the other nations who were the earth kingdom, air nomads and water tribe. So he sent his firebending army to kill all the airbenders.  Avatar Aang managed to elude him. Lord Sozin and all the other fire nation kings until Ozai wanted to kill the avatar for their reign was in the war. The Avatar's role is to keep balance to the world.

In season 1,  Katara and Sokka first take Aang to the northern water tribe but on the way Aang makes a shocking discovery that the fire nation killed his people. Once they reach the north pole Aang convinces Master Pakku to train him in water bending. The fire nation laid siege to the north pole because they wanted to kill him. By the end of the season he masters water bending. 

 In the start of season 2,  Aang with his two friends head to the earth kingdom city of Omashu. Here he meets a crazy General, who wants to use Aang’s powerful Avatar state to defeat the fire lord quickly. Aang agrees to this plan. When the plan doesn't work as expected the crazy General pulls Katara into the earth which aggravates Aang. This brings out Aang’s Avatar State. He rescues Katara. He meets his predecessor Avatar Roku in the spirit world. Avatar Roku tells Aang that the Avatar state is a defense mechanism when you are at your most powerful and vulnerable. He tells Aang that if Aang is killed in the Avatar state the Avatar cycle is broken and there will be no more avatars.He meets an Earth bender teacher named Toph, who joins the group. By the end of season 2 Aang masters earth bending.

At the start of season 3 , Aang, Katara, Sokka and Toph go to the fire nation to find Aang Fire bending teacher. Aang finds a teacher in Prince Zuko who is the son of Ozai. He teaches Aang fire bending. Aang faces Fire Lord Ozai in the final battle. During the battle Aang manages to take away Ozai’s fire bending powers. After the battle Ozai was arrested and Zuko became the king who gives a speech to everyone from all nations about love and peace.  Aang saved the world and forever after peace reigned.

This series taught me that good triumphs over evil and also to not give up when things get difficult in life. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes to watch anime.

మందర మకరందం mandara makarandam

మందరం There is translation of Bharatham into Telugu by Kavi Thrayam viz Nannaya, Thikkana and Errapragada. Pothana translated Bhagavatham into Telugu. There are many translations of Ramayanam into Telugu like Molla Ramayanam by Molla, Ranganatha Ramayanam by Gona BuddaReddy and Bhskara Ramayana by Bhaskarudu.But they are not true translations of valmiki Ramayanam and had deviations from the original.Vavikolanu Subbarao who was called as Vasu Dasu after he became a Vaishnava. He translated the 24000 slokas in Valmiki Ramayanam, sloka by sloka into Telugu.He later added a very comprehensive commentary and called his work as మందరం.it was very famous and every house hold in AP has a copy at that age. He was called Andhra Valmiki. Angalakuduru Asramam and SRM This was established by Subbadasu disciple of vasu dasu at angalakuduru near Tenali.SRM was staying there for about 15 years preferring to lead a frugal life denouncing all worldly pleasures. When he has gone there he was a leading lawyer earning lot of money, besides having30 acres of land and many houses. In the asram he was editing BHKTHA SANJEEVANI magazine published by the asramam. Asramam was publishing మందరం along with many other books written by Vasu Dasu. It so happened that the all the copies of the book were sold out and the asram was facing difficulty in publishing it. On SRMs advice they applied to TTD for financial help for reprint of the book. SVSR was in TTD at that time and helped to get Rs7000 for each kanda, a total of Rs 63000 for 9 kandas (which was maximum TTD could give). The book again went out of print in 1986. We again applied for assistance from TTD for reprint. They objected initially saying that they cannot give money for the same book twice. I was in TPT doing my M.Phil and was going round TTD editor’s office using SVSRs name.Finaly they released Rs 63000 again. మందర మకరందం Vanam Jwala Narasimharao was born in khammam district and at present he is CPRO to KCR, CM of Telangana.His father was a great devotee of Rama and was always reading మందరం. One of the neighbours of Narasimharao encouraged to simplify and write మందరం in sarala vachanam which he started and continued doing it in USA, where he was staying in his daughter’s house for 6 months. He called it as మందర మకరందం .six kandas are published and one kanda is coming as serial in ANDHRA BHOOMI s Sunday magazine. In one of my conservations with Sri Ramanuja Swami, the present guru of asram, he mentioned this and said that I can go collect the book which Naasimharao is giving for free.Narasimharao is staying in Srinagar colony which is very near to Begmpet and i went and met him, got the books by giving a small donation for reprint of the books. In the course of our conservation I mentioned about SRM and our family’s connection with asram.He has given the address and telephone number of asram in his serial in AndhraBhoomi. The serial is resulting in revival of interest on మందరం and asram was receiving many orders for the book, resulting again in shortage. When I told him this he was happy that he contributed for this. He rang up Ramanuja Swamy and told him that he will try for an amount of Rs 10, 00,000 from the government for the reprint. The story stands there at present
