Finished reading the 'The Lost Symbol' , latest novel from Dan Brown over the last weekend. Krupa, if you are thinking of buying it, don't bother. Better rent it like I did. It is still worth reading for the trivia and you will be all set for a few hours/days of surfing Wikipedia after finishing the book.
Robert Langdon, Harvard Prof from the Da Vinci Code is after something called the 'ancient mysteries', which remains a mystery even after you finish with the book. The book is set in Washington DC and is the usual treasure hunt and random collection of puzzles, codes and factoids. This time it goes a bit beyond Christianity and rambles about Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita also. The only interesting bits were some of the trivia:
1. George Washington seemed to be deified to weird levels in America. He has been painted into a Sistine Chapel-type roof fresco in the Capitol building in DC. In that picture, he is being initiated as a God by other Gods- the painting is called the Apotheosis of GW. Talk about a desperate need for heroes!

2. Newton seems to be a mason with a vengeance. Apparently, the highest level in the hierarchy of masons is the 33rd level. 33 is a very important number for the masons. For instance, the masonic temple in DC (pic below) has 33 outer pillars each of which are 33 feet high. Newton devised a temperature scale in which the boiling temperature of water is set to 33 Degrees!

There are other interesting facts too...worth reading for that. But the plot is as flat as a masonic ritual table!

Too late, already bought and read. Concur with your opinion though. The plot is as flat as it can be, twists and turns so easily anticipated and the language a tad overboard...............
