It IS disturbing, Mruduls. But how things will shape up will be determined by the 'big picture' thinking of the BJP leadership. Do they see India as the home of the Hindus, pillaged and squatted upon by outsiders through the ages, threatening the identity and culture of the Hindu- and hence their mandate to be the restoration of that culture, even by extra-constitutional methods? Or do they see India as a democratic republic, where the rule of law, the vision of the constitution makers and good governance can lead to peace and prosperity for the country? If they are of the latter view, these rowdy elements will go away in time. If they are of the former view, the social media hysteria (morphed pics, rabid remarks, heckles) and violence on the streets will continue. Let us hope good sense prevails. Even if it doesn't, they will not fare well in the next elections- like anywhere, people in India too do not like unsporting behavior and needless violence.
